about

In June of 2014, a band from San Fransisco named Wreck and Reference released an album called "Want." In September of the same year they released a collection of samples from "Want" called "Spill/Fill."

"Things Will Be Better in California" is an original composition built from some of these samples. Every sound you hear (save the vocals) is from "Spill/Fill." Below are a list of the samples used:

Kick: Coils
Synth
Tribal
Worst Sample on the Album

Snare: Breakfast Burrito, the Second
Flute
Nose out
Tribal (delay)

Hi-Hat: Dancing coins (delay)

Synth: Coils (percussive)
Inadequate Brutality
Kanye1

Stagger to the Podium
Synth

Voice Synth: And My Heart Pounds…
Childhood Memories
Face Separates from Eyes
Invalid Alone
Kanye1

Bass: A Dull Pain

Ambience: And My Heart Pounds…
Charon’s Cruise Call

This song is not part of the Gentrification series.

The artwork is inspired by (steals from) the album art for "Want."

lyrics

THINGS WILL BE BETTER IN CALIFORNIA
wishing away your luck
when will it end
how will you know that it's gone if nothing changes
deafening, isn't it?
the sound of your life crumbling down around you
no one hears it
clench your fist around your helplessness and keep on squeezing
you don't lack for sense...
dashing your head against the street just comes easy
because THAT'S what you are
not what you've done
or what you've made
"WORK" means nothing
it's how we justify our wasted time
and defend our cruel minds
wishing away your life
when will it end
all of your words are dead
